I am trying something new. This is somewhere to practice my writing. Somewhere to encourage me to keep learning GIS and re-embrace my childhood love of maps. Where maps and writing come together to tell stories. Stories can be powerful.
I want to write about transportation in Metro Vancouver. Which sounds fairly dry. But again it’s about stories. Human stories. When a map shows that more people are now connected to more jobs or parks or community centres, because of a new bike lane or bus route, that’s data, but its also hundreds or personal stories of getting a better job, or more trips to the park, or being able to forgo the expense of a car to reach an important destination. They are stories of strengthening communities and neighbourhoods. Of lives transformed.
